Vishwa Fernando struck twice in two balls to bowl Dean Elgar and Hashim Amla early after South Africa opted to bat.

Aiden Markram continued his good form with another fifty, stablising the innings after South Africa were reduced to 15/3.

Temba Bavuma was run-out for a duck as South Africa were in deep trouble.

Faf du Plessis and Markram added 58 runs for the fourth wicket to revive the innings but the South Africa captain fell on the last ball before lunch.

Quinton de Kock single-handedly kept South Africa in the game with a very brisk 86, but once he fell, South Africa didn't last very long.

Lasith Embuldeniya hurt his thumb while attempting to take a return catch off Rabada and was taken for scans immediately.

South Africa were bowled out for 222 in the final session.
