Sri Lanka had done well to reduce England late on Day 4 to 14/3 in a chase of 74. But Bairstow and Lawrence steadied the ship leaving England just 36 to get on the final day.

Bairstow and Lawrence with their unbeaten 62-run stand led England home unscathed, with a seven-wicket win and a 1-0 lead in the series.
