Day 4, Stumps

Cook's fairy-tale finish, Root's search for a three-figure score finally coming to an end after more than a year, a humongous target and rattling India early - England would have thought about this script at the start of Day 4 and the story that unfolded didn't veer from that. There was nothing much India could do with the ball as Cook and Root batted them into submission. But they could have shown better application with the bat in a chase of 464. Losing early wickets has always been India's problem in this series and nothing changed in that regard. Rahul's counter-attacking knock and Rahane's solidity gave them some respite, helping them end the day at 58 for 3. However, England signing off the series in style is very much the likely scenario unless the middle order comes up with something special. Join us tomorrow to find out if India have a bravery script written somewhere, and whether they follow it.

Rahul positive:

The wickets at the other end has not effect on Rahul, who has been batting positively. He has scored five fours so far, some lucky ones at that, to take India to 36 for 3.

England lose a review:

Rahul is rapped on the pad by an Anderson delivery that swung in. The umpire rules it not out and England's review goes in vain as the ball was going over the stumps.

Nope, it's Broad who gets the Indian captain:

Fishing at a delivery outside off, something he has resisted for a majority of this series, Kohli edges the ball to the 'keeper to depart for a first-ball duck. India are 2 for 3.

Here's Deepu with some info: Kohli ends the series with 593 runs - 244 ahead of the next placed Buttler (349). There's only one instance of a bigger difference where the highest scorer of the series came from the losing team: Brian Lara (688) - 285 ahead of H Tillakaratne (403) in SL, 2001/02.

Wicket No. 563:

An incoming delivery to Pujara, who misses a flick and is trapped in front for a duck. He opted for a review but was too late to it. Kohli walks in. Can Anderson dismiss the Indian skipper as his milestone wicket? There has been one fairytale script already today.

India's opening woes continue:

Dhawan falls early, getting trapped in front by Anderson after missing a flick. He contemplated for a while to go for the review but decided against it in the end. He departs for 1 with Rahul at the other end yet to get off the mark. How many more will India lose today? With that wicket, Anderson has 562 Test scalps, one short of Glenn McGrath.

India need 464 to win:

Curran slams a six off Vihari before becoming the debutant's third wicket. England declare on 423 for 8, leaving India with a target of 464. Meanwhile, the catch was taken by Rahul, who has surpassed Dravid.
