Ross Taylor led New Zealand beautifully with a spectacular century, unbeaten on 109 off 84 balls, to keep them in the chase. He, along with skipper Latham, shared a 138-run stand off just 79 balls to alter the course of the game as New Zealand's once required run rate of over 8, came down to below a run a ball. Latham departed for 69, but Taylor saw them through in the end.

That, after Henry Nicholls and Guptill provided them a steady start upfront with wickets intact. New Zealand will be relieved to have finally crossed the line after throwing away games in the T20I series. Earlier, Shreyas Iyer got his maiden ODI ton and with Kohli and Rahul helped India pile on the runs. Rahul played brilliantly for his unbeaten 88, but it wasn't enough as a Taylor special stole the show.
