Ali gets England home

They took the dramatic route, but the visitors have finally crossed the victory line with Moeen Ali taking them there. Series ends 1-1.

England were just 25 away from victory and had all the time in the world, but they took the dramatic route, losing four for 20 before Ali snuck them over the line. So a shared series it is then. The two teams will now turn their attention to the three T20Is to follow. You could argue England's attention was already there. Anyway, that's all from us here. Goodbye!

England create late drama

Joe Denly's fifty should've been the victory seal, but England have had a bit of a late collapse to keep South Africa interested. In a bid to finish in a hurry, Denly holed out at sweeper cover. Ngidi and Hendricks have since discovered how this surface's favourable for them if they get it right. They've removed Tom Banton and Tom Curran as well.

Shamsi removes Root

He's got him caught at leg-slip. How often does that happen in an ODI? Regardless, Tom Banton has got off to a quick start as well. England only 75 away with six wickets in hand and all the time in the world.

Root, Denly take control

After that slight wobble when they lost three wickets for 25 runs, England's two Joes have regained control. The required rate is never going to be a problem after Bairstow's blitz, but Root and Denly are still going briskly in a partnership that's crossed 50.

SA hanging in

Eoin Morgan has fallen early, spooning a return catch back to Hendricks. These three quick wickets have helped South Africa to just about hang in.

Bairstow departs after opening blitz

Jonny Bairstow smashed 43 off 23 balls, putting South Africa to the sword early. He swatted anything short, launched into anything full and really made the seam-bowling attack look very ordinary on a pitch where the ball is still doing something. Thankfully for South Africa, Sipamla has broken through to end Bairstow's blitz. Jason Roy, much more sedate, has fallen as well, mistiming a pull shot in the air off Beuran Hendricks.

Miller boost takes South Africa to 256

The left-hander smashed four fours and four sixes, powering South Africa to 48 off the final five overs as they recovered from 204/7. This is Miller's first fifty in well over a year and has kept them with a fighting chance on a testing pitch at the Wanderers. South Africa were on their way to capitulation when Miller took charge. In a haze of run-outs and poor shot selection, they had lost their way post de Kock's dismissal. But with 256 on the board, their hopes of a series win aren't completely extinguished.

De Kock gone

England's spinners have snatched all momentum from South Africa, doing so with crucial breakthroughs, none more so than Rashid dismissing Quinton de Kock. The South Africa captain wanted to go inside-out against the turn, but couldn't fulfil the prerequisite of meeting the pitch in order to ward off risk. So there's enough room for the ball to turn, which it does significantly - past the inside edge and into the stumps.
