Sunday is what Sydneysiders like to call a "scorcher". It's not just a case of how the temperatures around the city are expected to soar into the mid-40s but also where the wind is coming from. It's especially the case when it's a strong north-westerly, which basically means it's coming from the arid desert region of Central Australia. It's when the already "severe heatwave" gets exacerbated to the extent that locals are asked to stay home and even avoid the beaches - not easily done in this part of the world. And if they do then to abide by the "slip, slop, slap" advice to protect themselves from the sun.
