Day 4, Stumps:

A good reply from South Africa despite losing an early wicket. Markram (59*) and van der Dussen (48) have shown good technique, not just for keeping the bowlers at bay but they have also scored at a good rate to help South Africa's solid approach to the chase. The visitors end the day at 127 for 1, still needing 243 to square the series. Join us tomorrow for the climax to this Test series.

Half-century for Markram:

The opener has batted with a lot of confidence so far and brings up a well-compiled half-century. Can he go on and make this a big contribution? South Africa are 100 for 1.

50-run stand:

So far it's been good going for Markram and van der Dussen, who have batted with a lot of confidence and haven't shied away from playing their shots. Markram strikes his second six by clearing the long-off fence off Nauman to bring up the half-century stand. South Africa are 88 for 1.

Van der Dussen starts well:

The No. 3 starts with a couple of fours off Afridi in the opening over - clipping one fine and then executing a straight drive. Markram then decides to sweep Nauman for a boundary. 50 up for South Africa but they still have plenty of work to do.

Day 4, Tea:

South Africa go into Tea at 37 for 1, with plenty of work to do. Markram is not out on 14, with van der Dussen for company. Nauman has found turn and bounce and Pakistan will be hoping he gets into the act in the final session.

Elgar departs:

A loose shot from the left-handed opener who chases an Afridi delivery outside off and ends up nicking it to the 'keeper. South Africa are 33 for 1.

Confident start from South Africa:

Dean Elgar is away with four fours off Hasan Ali. Meanwhile, Aiden Markram takes a while to get going, getting off the mark with a boundary off Nauman Ali off his 23rd delivery. Markram also survives a leg-before review with an inside edge saving him before he comes down the track to send the ball over the fence. South Africa are 33 for 0.

South Africa need 370 to win:

Shaheen Afridi becomes the last to depart, bowled by Linde who bags a five-wicket haul. But enough damage was done before that, thanks to Rizwan's unbeaten stay for 204 deliveries which was worth 115 runs including 15 fours. Unless South Africa have a batsmen or two playing the innings of their lives, Pakistan have this in their pocket.

Nauman's entertaining innings comes to an end:

No fifty for the 34-year-old, who looks to pull Rabada but mistimes it and Elgar holds on to a good diving catch at short midwicket. Nauman departs for 45, leaving Pakistan at 293 for 9. His partnership with Rizwan was worth 97 runs.

Rizwan ton stretches Pakistan's lead:

A superb knock from the wicketkeeper-batsman, who registers his maiden Test ton. Remember, Pakistan were 128 for 6 in danger of being bowled out cheaply. But Rizwan has batted brilliantly with support from the tail-enders to take the game away from South Africa, who are looking battered and bruised at the moment. Pakistan are 272 for 8, leading by 343.

Pakistan's lead crosses 300:

A six for Nauman off Linde, followed by a pull for a four by Rizwan off Nortje helps extend Pakistan's lead to 300. South Africa also miss a run out chance to give Rizwan a reprieve. Rizwan adds insult to injury by driving one square of the wicket for a four. The hosts are 235 for 8, leading by 306.

Day 4, Lunch:

An excellent knock from Rizwan, who remains unbeaten on 73 at Lunch. His knock has ensured Pakistan have a healthy lead now. They are 217 for 8, leading by 288.

End of a good stand:

The partnership finally comes to an end as Yasir departs for 23, caught behind off Linde while attempting a cut. But he has done his job, having supported Rizwan in an important partnership which has now left Pakistan at 196 for 8, leading by 23.

Fifty for Rizwan:

Seventh Test fifty for Rizwan and he gets there with an well-executed cut off Linde for a four. He also manages a sweep for three and then pulls a Mulder delivery in the next over for a four to bring up the half-century stand. Pakistan move to 195 for 7, leading by 266.

Rizwan, Yasir extend lead past 250:

Rizwan and Yasir have done well to rotate the strike, with the occasional boundaries, as they keep adding to Pakistan's total and South Africa's worries. Linde also put down a tough catch off his own bowling to give Yasir a reprieve. Pakistan move to 181 for 7, leading by 252.

Rizwan survives:

South Africa go up in appeal for caught behind after they think Rizwan's attempted cut off Linde has resulted in an edge to the 'keeper. They opt for the review but replays reveal that there was no bat involved.

Yasir helps Pakistan extend lead:

A couple of boundaries for Yasir Shah helps Pakistan add crucial runs. He also gets a lucky break, put down by de Kock off Maharaj.

Maharaj strikes:

Third wicket for Maharaj as he traps Hasan Ali in front. The tail-ender attempted a sweep but missed and was given out leg-before. A review fails to come to his aid. Pakistan are 143 for 7.

Useful runs:

A loose ball from Nortje first up as he offers Rizwan width and is put away for a four. Hasan then goes across the line to Maharaj to score another boundary. There was also some confusion in running between the wickets that almost led to a run out. Rizwan also guides a Nortje delivery past the slip cordon for another four.
