The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has discontinued the policy of a permanent manager for the senior men's team and has likely fallen back on the previous system of appointing managers on a series-by-series basis.

Cricbuzz can confirm that the tenure of Girish Dongre, who has been the administrative manager of the Indian team for the last couple of years, has ended and the BCCI has decided against renewing his contract. The Indian team had a new administrative head for the just-concluded West Indies series, Dhaval Shah of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) and there will be a new one for the upcoming one against Sri Lanka, albeit in a different designation.

Cricbuzz understands Jaidev Shah, the president of Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA), has taken charge as a representative of the BCCI for the Sri Lanka series which starts in Lucknow. There will be no manager.

It is believed that the contract of Dongre, who was recruited by the BCCI under the previous Committee of Administrators (COA) regime, was up to the Twenty20 World Cup in UAE. However, he had gone to South Africa, apparently on a temporary extension. Since the series ended earlier in January, he has not been associated with the team.

Dongre had replaced Sunil Subramaniam in the role, in late 2019 . He came under fire during the last summer's tour of England where many Indian players had tested positive for COVID-19 leading to the curtailment of fifth and final Test.

Dongre could not be immediately contacted for a comment.
