West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell is set to retire from international cricket. Cricbuzz understands that Russell, who has been named in the T20I squad for the series against Australia, will play the first two matches at Sabina Park in his home nation - Jamaica. It is understood that he will not travel to St. Kitts and Nevis for the remaining three matches of the series.

The now 37-year-old Russell has made 84 appearances in T20Is for the West Indies with 1078 runs and 61 wickets to his name. He was also part of the winning team in the 2012 and 2016 T20 World Cup editions. With 561 T20 appearances across the global franchise circuit, he has amassed 9316 runs at a strike-rate of 168.31 and has taken 485 wickets.

The squad also includes maiden T20I call-ups for Jewel Andrew and Jediah Blades. Seasoned campaigners Akeal Hosein, Jason Holder, and Rovman Powell have also been named in the 16-man squad announced by Cricket West Indies on Wednesday (July 16).

Andrew, 18, had made his international debut for the West Indies in the ODI version of the game last October and the highly regarded batting prospect has caught the eye of the support staff with his intent and range hitting against the spinners. He can also ply his trade with the gloves behind the stumps in the field.

Blades, a left-arm seamer, had made his international debut against Bangladesh in December 2024 in ODIs. He was the star with the ball in the inaugural West Indies Breakout League taking the most number of wickets in the PowerPlay.

West Indies T20I Squad: Shai Hope (Captain), Jewel Andrew, Jediah Blades, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Gudakesh Motie, Rovman Powell, Andre Russell, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd

The series will be played from June 20 to June 28. The first three games will be played at Sabina Park in Jamaica while the final three games will be hosted by Warner Park in St. Kitts.
