England continued their dominance, producing another near perfect bowling display to bundle India out for 148. It was not just the Jimmy-Broad show, Woakes and Jordan vindicated the selectors' faith in them with 3-fers each. Dhoni's 82 was the lone bright spark in an otherwise dismal, yet familiar Indian batting effort. The Indian skipper's battling 82 formed more than half of India's total. Even Stuart Broad appreciated Dhoni's rearguard action. Ishant gave him decent company as the 58-run last wicket union gave India a smidgen of hope.

The smile was evidently back on Alastair Cook's face as he helped England stave off an Indian attack that was buoyed by the early wicket of Sam Robson. The England captain combined well with the in-form Gary Ballance and the duo went on to stitch together a decisive 50-run stand to help England close in on India's total.
Alastair Cook went on to bring up an impressive half century as England moved to within touching distance on India's sub-par 148. Gary Ballance too looked comfortable with everything India had to offer.
The duo took the side to 148/1 at Lunch on the 2nd Day.
Gary Ballance continued his solid run with the bat as he went on to notch up yet another 50+ score in the series. He also helped England take a lead and put themselves in a position of strength with 9 wickets in hand.
India's struggles in the slip cordon has been well documented in this series, with the side putting down as many as 7 catches at slip. The troubles continued for the visiting side as Murli Vijay put down a regulation slip chance, letting Alastair Cook play on.
As if to underline their total lack of application at slip, Ajinkya Rahane dropped a catch a couple of over later, to give Alastair Cook yet another reprieve.
