Imran Tahir has replaced Robin Peterson in South Africa's squad for the Boxing Day Test against the West Indies that will start from December 26th. Peterson, who cut his left fore finger during a fielding drill, required three stitches and will be out of action for at least two weeks.

Despite not playing the first Test in Centurion, Peterson was said to be in line to play the second Test as the track in Port Elizabeth is expected to offer assistance to spinners.

Peterson is the third South African player to be sidelined by an injury. A knee problem has kept JP Duminy's return on hold at least until the start of the limited-overs games, while Quinton de Kock's ankle ligament tear has ruled him out of action for six weeks.

Tahir, dropped for the series, will be eager to make the opportunity count. The leg-spinner hasn't found much success in the longest format of the game. He has taken 40 wickets in 15 Tests at an average of 47.17. He last played for South Africa in Tests against Sri Lanka in July at Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC).
