England are a vastly improved outfit in limited-overs cricket. If Pakistan didn't know it already, the first ODI Southampton was a cruel reminder of how much the format has changed, particularly in the British Isles. Flat tracks. 300 is routine. Lord's is going to be no different. England seek an encore while Pakistan contemplate the rationale of the Yasir Shah axe. This should be another fascinating contest.

Not the start Pakistan would have anticipated after electing to bat. Sami Aslam, replacing Hafeez in the top order, played and missed the pull but England's bowlers heard a disturbance. They opted for the review and although there was no conclusive evidence on the hotspot, a tiny spike on snicko was enough for the third umpire to overturn the on-field decision.

If the first wicket was controversial, there were absolutely no doubts about the next two. Mark Wook cleaned up Sharjeel Khan with a peach of an outswinger before Woakes picked up his second with a classical outswinger that forced Azhar Ali into playing it before leaving him right at the end to take the outside edge on the way to the keeper.

Of course, much of the pre-match talk has revolved around the go-ahead given for England's forthcoming tour of Bangladesh by ECB's security team that was satisfied with the arrangements in the sub-continent nation. A matter as sensitive as that has had opposing view points with Kevin Pietersen stating that he would not have made the trip. Buttler has hinted at
