PAK 178/6 (20)
WI 164/7 (20)
Pakistan won by 14 runs
PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Saim Ayub

Pakistan have started their tour on a winning note, should come as a relief especially after having lost the previous series to Bangladesh not so long ago. The pain continues to pile on West Indies and they haven't won a match this season. For a start, they at least won a toss, but they need to bat, bowl and field a lot better if they're to make a comeback in the next match. We'll be back in Florida for the second T20I on Saturday. Do join us for all the action. For now, cheers and bye..

Salman Ali Agha | Pakistan captain - It was a great game, we assessed the conditions well, batted and finished well, we started well with the ball, the middle overs were outstanding and the spinners were superb. We didn't take a wicket in the first 10 overs, but we controlled the game. The 11th over, we got three wickets and that was the turning point. Once the ball got older, it was tough to bat against spin and I was waiting for the moment. The pitch was the same for both teams - you could score against the new ball, but once the ball went old, it started to grip and turn for the spinners, making batting very difficult.

Shai Hope | West Indies captain - I wouldn't say the bowling was poor, but we could have restricted them to a lesser score. We didn't field well and then we didn't bat well at all. Saim (Ayub) and Fakhar (Zaman), there were two left-handers and didn't give a lot of scope for Motie (to bowl), Chase bowled well and I might've missed a beat by not bowling more spin. We didn't want the spinners to settle, wanted the openers to go hard as possible and then have Motie at 3. I didn't get going today and that was unfortunate, but the plan was to put pressure on their spinners after a fast start. We need to learn from our mistakes and learn quickly and we need to put the words into action.

Saim Ayub | Player of the Match - It was a challenging pitch to bat, it was in our mind to build partnership and not panic. We have plans, but they're flexible according to the moment. We look at the conditions, decide our shots and strategy, it's all about staying in the present moment. The pitch limited our shots, we needed to be a lot more focused. Whatever role my team demand, I'll do it, it wasn't my best bowling effort though (laughs).

23:46 Local Time, 03:46 GMT, 09:16 IST: West Indies will look back at the first 10 overs of the chase - they didn't lose a wicket, but both Charles and Jewel Andrew got stuck, they did get the occasional sixes, but the strike wasn't rotated and they were caught napping by spin. 63 came off the first 10 overs and they left their mates with too much to do. As it often happens, the pressure built was converted into wickets - three fell in one Mohammad Nawaz over as the Windies collapsed from 72 for 0 to 110 for 7. Romario Shepherd struck a couple of blows, Jason Holder blasted a 12-ball 30* and Shamar Joseph followed his 3-wicket burst with a 12-ball 21*, but all that meant was that the margin of defeat was reduced to 14 runs. 9th straight home defeat for the West Indies this season and they'll quickly need to find answers to several questions?

19.6

Faheem Ashraf to Shamar Joseph, SIX, Pakistan win by 14 runs, it's a strong finish, but it doesn't matter for West Indies - full-toss and Joseph muscled it over long-on for a maximum

19.5

Faheem Ashraf to Shamar Joseph, FOUR, back of a length and well outside off - Joseph drags the pull over wide mid-wicket, Ayub sprints to his right at deep mid-wicket and then pulls out of the catch at the last moment, letting the ball go past him and onto the ropes

19.4

Faheem Ashraf to Shamar Joseph, no run, short and banged into the pitch, Joseph toe-ends the pull back at the bowler

19.3

Faheem Ashraf to Holder, 1 run, low full-toss outside off - Holder swipes and gets a thick inside edge, behind square on the on-side for a run

They're wiping the ball furiously, could be some dew in the outfield

19.2

Faheem Ashraf to Holder, no run, that closes out the match, would've been a wide had Holder let it go. but he chases and mistimes the drive to cover

19.1

Faheem Ashraf to Holder, SIX, he's just about keeping his team with a 1% chance of pulling off an improbable win - length ball and he got under it on the slog, high and over long-on for a maximum

19.1

Faheem Ashraf to Holder, wide, another wide as Faheem pushes one miles wide of off

19.1

Faheem Ashraf to Holder, wide, Faheem pushes one well wide of off, past the tramlines and is wided - 33 needed off 6 balls

Faheem Ashraf [1.0-0-12-0] is back into the attack

18.6

Haris Rauf to Shamar Joseph, SIX, 19 off the over, on a length and at the stumps - Joseph backs away and swings it through the line, got hold of the shovel and has enough to clear the fielder at deep mid-wicket

18.5

Haris Rauf to Shamar Joseph, no run, short of a good length and angling across the left-hander - Joseph swings across the line once again and misses

18.4

Haris Rauf to Shamar Joseph, no run, on a length and angling across the left-hander - Joseph swings hard and misses

18.3

Haris Rauf to Holder, 1 run, low full-toss from Rauf, driven down to long-on for a single

18.2

Haris Rauf to Holder, SIX, massive, back-to-back sixes from Holder and he's giving this crowd something to cheer about, back of a length and at the stumps, Holder stands tall and then hammers the pull, played with a straight bat and sent it soaring over wide long-on
