Uncapped players Afif Hossain and Mohammad Naim have been included in the Bangladesh squad for the first two ODIs of the three-match series against Zimbabwe. Mashrafe Mortaza also returns to the squad and will lead the team, having missed the last ODI series (against Sri Lanka in July 2019) due to an injury.

There are as many as seven changes to the team that toured Sri Lanka, with Liton Das, Nazmul Hossain, Al-Amin Hossain, and Mohammad Saifuddin being the other inclusions in the 15-member squad for the opening two ODIs against Zimbabwe. Meanwhile, Soumya Sarkar, Anamul Haque, Mosaddek Hossain, Sabbir Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Farhad Reza and Taskin Ahmed have been left out.

"There are many changes as we have selected this squad taking the future into consideration," chairman of the national selection panel Minhajul Abedin told Cricbuzz on Sunday. "We played the last ODIs long time ago and now the complexion of the team has changed quite a bit due to various reasons, like some were performing while others failed to do the same as per our expectations."

Afif, the 20-year-old allrounder who has played 10 T20Is for Bangladesh, recently scored a century batting in the middle order for East Zone in the first-class match against South Zone. Naim, the 20-year-old left-handed opening batsman, has also featured in five T20Is for Bangladesh, with a score of 43 in a T20I against Pakistan recently.
