Another missed chance for Zimbabwe to take a lead in the series, they let it slip in the ODIs as well where they had a golden opportunity to win the first ODI but faltered in the final over. Today they fought back superbly after the opening partnership but Maposa's inexperience cost them. They have a couple more games to make amends and the second T20I is on Saturday. Do join us for that. Until then goodbye and stay safe..
Charith Asalanka - I'm very happy with the performance, the way we played today was outstanding. We were concerned a bit ( at six wickets down), credit goes to the Zimbabwean bowlers and fielders, they did a good job, but Kamindu played well. He was outstanding at the top of the innings (on Kusal Mendis), he's an X-factor (on Chameera), he can bowl 145kmph, we missed him last year and are happy that he's back now.
Kamindu Mendis | Player of the Match - There were some quick wickets in the middle, so I thought if I can spend 5-6 balls, I can then try and finish the game. I had to hit some boundaries in the situation, I just kept calm and expressed myself. It was a good surface, they batted really well, so did our openers, was a good wicket
Sikandar Raza - We were in the game for 19 overs, one over that cost us 26 killed the game off. You back yourselves when a team needs 36 off the last 3 overs. The young boy bowled well, had one tough over and he'll learn from this. We didn't expect anything else from the pitch, it played well, the ball came onto the bat and was a good pitch to score runs. I always believe a winning change room changes things, but we've come close and then panicked, once we start winning. we'll walk over the huddles. Once we start learning how to win, we'll cross such hurdles in the future.
16:56 Local Time, 14:56 GMT, 20:26 IST: The scorecard might suggest it was a comfortable win as Sri Lanka got there with balls to spare but it was far from it. Yes, they were off to a good start with Nissanka going berserk in the powerplay and ensuring Sri Lanka raced to 65 in the first six overs. They added 96 for the opening wicket and were cruising at the 10-over mark, but things changed dramatically as Zimbabwe fought back and picked 4 for 10 in 19 balls. The game was in the balance and had Evans held on to a tough chance off Kamindu Mendis when he was on 4 then things might have been different. As it turned out he was the key for Sri Lanka and him smashing Maposa for 26 runs in the 18th over sealed the game in their favour. Presentations coming up..
Muzarabani to Hemantha, FOUR, Sri Lanka win by 4 wickets. Full pitcher around off, Hemantha drills the drive through cover and seals the victory. It was never a good plan to have everyone up on the off-side
Blessing Muzarabani [3.0-0-37-1] is back into the attack
3 needed from the final over. Ngarava did well to take it to the last over. Can Muzarabani pull off a miracle? He will have to do it with one less fielder on the boundary rope. Zimbabwe have been penalised for slow over-rate. An extra fielder needs to come inside the ring. No one in the deep on the off-side
Ngarava to Hemantha, leg byes, 1 run, back of a length delivery, Hemantha looks to pull and misses, the ball hits him on the thigh pad and drops into the off-side
Ngarava to Hemantha, no run, short ball around leg, Hemantha swivels and attempts the pull but the ball flies over his left shoulder
Ngarava to Kamindu Mendis, 1 run, fullish delivery on off, Mendis flicks it towards deep mid-wicket and settles with a single
Ngarava to Hemantha, 1 run, direct hit and Hemantha was struggling. Very full delivery on off, jammed out in front of cover and the duo go for a risky single. Raza has a shy at the bowler's end but does not hit the target
Ngarava to Hemantha, no run, short and angled across, Hemantha goes chasing but does not connect with the slash
Ngarava to Hemantha, 2 runs, angled outside off, Hemantha drags the pull wide of long-on and scampers back for the second
Richard Ngarava [3.0-0-15-2] is back into the attack
Tinotenda Maposa to Kamindu Mendis, SIX, 26 runs from the over. Mendis pumps his fist. Another juicy full toss on the pads, Mendis swings it towards deep backward square and there's enough to clear the fielder. Just 8 needed now..
Tinotenda Maposa to Hemantha, 1 run, full delivery on the pads, Hemantha flicks to deep square and they stick to a single
Tinotenda Maposa to Hemantha, FOUR, Sri Lanka are running away with the game. Maposa is on his haunches. He has allowed the game to slip away in just 4 balls. The asking rate is almost run-a-ball now. Strays down leg, Hemantha stays inside the line and helps it along to fine leg, one bounce and over the ropes
Tinotenda Maposa to Hemantha, 2 runs, short of length delivery, Hemantha pulls it behind square and Williams can't prevent the second
Tinotenda Maposa to Kamindu Mendis, leg byes, 1 run, very full delivery on leg, Mendis misses the clip and the ball deflects off the pad
