Washington Freedom wrapped up their league stage with a clinical six-wicket win over MI New York in Lauderhill to secure a top-two finish. Glenn Maxwell was named Player of the Match for his game-changing spell of 3 for 29 which kept MINY to 112/8 in a rain-shortened 18-overs-a-side affair.

Put in to bat after a delayed start, MINY lost captain Nicholas Pooran and Monank Patel inside the first three overs. Opener Kunwarjeet Singh held the innings together with a steady 33, but the middle order collapsed quickly. Glenn Maxwell triggered the slide by removing Tajinder Dhillon and Sharad Lumba off consecutive deliveries before Glenn Phillips chipped in with two more wickets, including that of a well-set Kunwarjeet. MINY never recovered from the slide and hobbled to 112/8 despite playing out the full 18 overs.

In reply, Washington lost Mitchell Owen early, but andries Gous (46 off 34) ensured a steady start. Mark Chapman then took on the bowlers with a brisk 27 off 18 that included two sixes, easing the pressure in the middle overs. There was a brief hiccup when Chapman and Maxwell fell in quick succession, but Gous stayed calm and finished the job alongside Glenn Phillips with three overs to spare.

Brief Scores: MI New York 112/8 in 18 overs (Kunwarjeet Singh 33; Glenn Maxwell 3-29) lost to Washington Freedom 113/4 in 15 overs (Andries Gous 46*; Tristan Luus 2-39) by 8 wickets
