3 - During his innings, Root went past 1000 Test runs at Old Trafford (1128 by the end of his innings), becoming the first player to do so. Having also amassed 2166 runs at Lord's, he became the third England batter to aggregate 1000-plus Test runs at two different venues, after Alastair Cook and Graham Gooch (both did that at Lord's and at The Oval).

588 runs for Root against Ravindra Jadeja in Tests. That's the highest aggregate for anyone against a bowler in the format, surpassing 577 for Steven Smith against Stuart Broad. Jadeja eventually had him stumped, just the second such dismissal for England's No.4 in the format after Nathan Lyon had got him in a similar manner in the Ashes 2023 opener at Edgbaston.
