Kevin Pietersen's dramatic 'reverse slog-sweep' is up for discussion by MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club), cricket's ultimate rule-makers, at Lord's here on Tuesday. The England batsman's remarkable shot, which saw him change hands and effectively become a left-hander while twice striking sixes off New Zealand's Scott Styris at the Riverside in the first one-day international, caused concerns at the International Cricket Council (ICC), who have now asked MCC for a ruling. Some cricket lovers believe the stroke should be outlawed because while the bowler must inform the umpire with which hand he is bowling, similiar restrictions do not exist for batsmen. Pietersen, speaking after being named man-of-the-match for an unbeaten 110 which helped England go 1-0 up in the five-match series, defended his right to play the extraordinary shot. "Reverse sweeps have been part of the game since however long and I'm just fortunate enough that I can hit it a bit further," said Pietersen, who played a similar shot, also a six, against Sri Lanka off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan in a Test match at Edgbaston two years ago. "Nobody has seen that before and and people should be saying it's the new way to go, not criticising everything that happens on a daily basis." The second match of the series takes place at Edgbaston on Wednesday.
