They notched up 481 on the board before the trio of Kagiso Rabada, Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander shared eight spoils between them to help South Africa gain a first innings lead of 267. Only Kane Williamson played with poise and equanimity to amass a gritty 77.
South Africa, though, didn't enforce the follow-on and decided to bat for the second time. Boult and Southee finally got the new ball to swing to run through the top-order. The impressive Wagner and Bracewell chipped in with a wicket each, but with an overall lead of 372, the home team hold all the aces.
