During his debut One-Day International series against New Zealand in October 2016, Hardik Pandya had opened the bowling for India in three matches and also held the new ball in two one-dayers against England at the start of this year. The Baroda all-rounder, however, wasn't preferred as the opening bowler in the ICC Champions Trophy. Nor did he get to open the attack in the 50-over games against the Windies.
