One team has the big guns coming in, the other sees them going back. Such has been the contrast between South Africa and West Indies as they begin their final tune-up before the big event in Australia- New Zealand. AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla, Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel were amongst those who sat out the inconsequential T20I series that West Indies sealed 2-1, thanks in chief to a certain Chris Gayle. Meanwhile, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard, who featured for the Caribbeans in the short form aren't part of the ODI set up anymore and will head home.

Clive Lloyd and his team of selectors believe that 22-year Jason Holder is the right man to lead West Indies forward. This will be Holder's first test. Against South Africa at the Kingsmead, Durban. Over to you, Jason!

Andre Russell briefly raised hopes of a West Indies comeback by smacking consecutive sixes off Vernon Philander but the bowler had the last laugh when we removed Russell with a short delivery that Russell looked to pull but only succeeded in edging it to the keeper.

Imran Tahir then picked up his third wicket, his fiftieth in ODI histroy, when he knocked over Dinesh Ramdin with a full delivery that the batsmen missed while attempting a slog sweep.

Steyn then finished the West Indies innings with a length ball that Jason Holder swung at wildly and only succeeded in getting a top edge. David Miller at cover back-pedalled and completed a fine catch.

Jerome Taylor was then dismissed off his very first ball as he nicked a delivery in the channel from Steyn to give South Africa a 1-0 series lead.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, South Africa were jolted early by Jerome Taylor's double strike. The usual pair of Amla and de Villiers got together and stitched an important partnership before Amla was run-out for 66. David Miller then joined the captain and the duo added 123-runs for the fourth wicket, Miller adding 70 and de Villiers 81, before West Indies fought back to reduce South Africa to 279/8.

Rains in Durban then gave West Indies a reduced target of 226 in 32 overs. Chris Gayle came out swinging and raced to a quickfire 40. Once Steyn removed him, West Indies lost a procession of wickets, Imran Tahir was the chief destroyer with a tight spell that also fetched him three wickets.

South Africa eventually bowled out West Indies for 164, giving South Africa a 61-run win. AB de Villiers was the man of the match for his 81.
