After Australia piled up a mammoth 583/4, courtesy of the highest fourth wicket stand in Test cricket's history, the West Indians finished Day 2 with 207/6, with Darren Bravo just six away from a well-deserved hundred. Hello and welcome to the third day of the first Test between Australia and the West Indies. If it was the record 449-run stand between Adam Voges and Shaun Marsh that stole the headlines yesterday, all eyes will be on the bowling unit today. Siddle and Pattinson were average yesterday. Can they do better today?
Considering that the West Indies still trail by 376 runs, it will be interesting to see whether Steven Smith decides to enforce the follow-on if the Aussies manage to get the remaining four wickets cheaply.
Three actually - Shannon Gabriel is suffering from a stress fracture and will not bat. Bravo and Roach will have to do the bulk of the scoring. It's chilly in Hobart. The conditions are blustery in Hobart.
The partnership is broken. Josh Hazlewood has sent back Kemar Roach with the perfect length delivery on the channel of uncertainty. Roach has a little poke at it and nicks behind to the keeper. End of a 99-run seventh wicket stand. Good 31 for Roach. Highlights the importance of having to regroup at the start of a session.
One brings two for Australia. Jerome Taylor now has four consecutive ducks against the Aussies. Drags this Hazlewood delivery back onto his stumps. Just the final wicket to take for Steve Smith. WIll he enforce the follow on?
Darren Bravo completes his seventh Test century in the first over of the day's play. Peter Siddle starts off for Australia and overpitches a couple of delivery allowing the Trinidadian to get the flourish out and go through the in-field. Classy, classy innings from Bravo. If he can add consistency to his game, he can be the fulcrum of the West Indian batting for a long time to come. Long way to go in this Test match. Can he do something special here?
James Pattinson is on fire at the Blundstone Arena and the all-so-familiar WI collapse is on full display here. Samules gets one that bounces on, catches the shoulder of the bat and balloons to third slip where Warner takes a simple catch.
Blackwood then bags a pair as the delivery first up to him stays low and knocks over the off-pole. West Indies have lost seven wickets in this session!
Darren Bravo attempts to hit out, falls to Peter Siddle for 108 as West Indies lose their ninth wicket. That will be the last of this innings. Shannon Gabriel is not fit to come out. Steve Smith has indicated that West Indies will have to bat again. The visitors trail by 360 runs. Can they put up a better batting performance here? Chandrika and Brathwaite are out in the middle. The Aussies reassemble. Here we go!
