Hello and welcome to the Live Blog of the second Twenty20 International at the New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. A new look South African team got the better of Sri Lanka in the opening Twenty20 International (T20I) and they will be eager to extend the visitors' agony in the tour in a bid to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

In the Centurion game that was reduced to 10 overs per side, David Miller and skipper Farhaan Behardien starred with the bat with blistering knocks before the 20-year-old pacer Lungi Ngidi picked up 2 for 12 on debut to hand the hosts a 19-run victory. Others too chipped in with useful efforts, which augurs well for the side, which despite its inexperience looks set to extend South Africa's unbeaten run in the series.

While Sri Lanka put up a better effort as compared to their dismal showing in the Test series, they were still found wanting in all departments. Niroshan Dickwella's 19-ball 43 and Dhananjaya de Silva's 27 were the only spirited performances from the Sri Lankan team, whose middle order failed to turn up yet again in the series. Their bowling too left a lot to be desired. Unless Sri Lanka come up with a collective effort, all they can do is pray for their shambolic tour to end quickly.

Check out the full preview here.

Although there has been a lot of rain around Johannesburg, the match is expected to start on time. Hopefully, this won't be a curtailed affair.

South Africa skipper Farhaan Behardien won the toss and decided to bat first. The hosts have gone in with an unchanged eleven. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, have made a couple of changes. Nuwan Pradeep misses out due to an injury while Suranga Lakmal, who only bowled one over in the previous game and conceded 18 runs, has been left out. Isuru Udana and Lakshan Sandakan are the replacements in the eleven, with the latter featuring in his maiden T20I.

Teams:

South Africa (Playing XI): Heino Kuhn, JJ Smuts, Theunis de Bruyn, David Miller, Farhaan Behardien(c), Mangaliso Mosehle(w), Wayne Parnell, Andile Phehlukwayo, Aaron Phangiso, Imran Tahir, Lungisani Ngidi

Sri Lanka (Playing XI): Niroshan Dickwella, Dhananjaya de Silva, Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews(c), Dinesh Chandimal(w), Asela Gunaratne, Thikshila de Silva, Seekkuge Prasanna, Nuwan Kulasekara, Isuru Udana, Lakshan Sandakan

JJ Smuts gets off the mark with a boundary behind square in the opening over. However, it is a tidy start from the Sri Lankan skipper Mathews, bowls five dot deliveries apart from the boundary-yielding third ball of the match. Nuwan Kulasekara backs up Mathews efforts with a fine over and has lucky going his way too - Smuts glances one to short fine where debutant Sandakan hold on to a good, low catch. South Africa are 6 for 1 after two overs.

Theunis de Bruyn would have been a goner as he was stranded midway down the pitch after being turned back by Heino Kuhn in the third over. However, luckily for him, Niroshan Dickwella misses a direct hit and gives the South African No. 3 a lucky break. In the same over, de Bruyn manages a streaky boundary to fine leg. Luck seems to be going his way, for now.

Isuru Udana strikes in his first over as de Bruyn clips one straight to Dhananjaya de Silva at deep square-leg. He departs for 7 off 6, leaving South Africa at 13 for 2 in the fourth over.

Aaron Phangiso and Imran Tahir apply the brakes on Sri Lanka, sneaking in a string of tight overs. Sri Lanka have been boundary-less after the fourth over, but they have their most experienced pair at the crease. Mathews, who has crossed 1000 T20I runs, and Chandimal are key for Sri Lanka. The required rate has crossed six, but this is not the time to panic and the Sri Lanka's fourth-wicket pair will be well aware of that. The game is on!

Timely boundaries from the Sri Lankan skipper has helped the visitors regain control of the match. Chandimal has provided good support as they have extended their partnership past 40 to take Sri Lanka to 78 for 3 after 13. Sri Lanka need 36 more off 42; all seems in their control now but for how long?

Ngidi is the name Johannesburg and the whole of South Africa will be chanting. He has delivered a crucial strike, sending back Chandimal for 22 to end a 51-run stand. It must, however, be said that it was a poor stroke from the vice-captain, trying to go for the big shot only to edge it to the keeper. Ngidi has finished with excellent figures of 4 for 19 from his four overs. Sri Lanka need 25 more from 30.

It's hard to keep Imran Tahir out of action. First he traps Asela Gunaratne in front in the 16th over and then takes the catch of Prasanna at the deep to help keep the pressure on Sri Lanka. The visitors need 17 from 17.

Thikshila de Silva becomes yet another Sri Lankan batsman to fall to a poor stroke, finds Behardien at mid-on while trying to hit Parnell across the line. Mathews then hurt his ankle while trying to get to the crease in time. However, he continues batting with Sri Lanka needing 8 to get off 7.

After being put down by Kuhn in the final over, Mathews smokes one over long-on to manage a maximum off Smuts. He finishes it off in style, clearing the straight boundary to help Sri Lanka win by 3 wickets with two deliveries to spare. Mathews, who may not even be fit for the next match, has ensured Sri Lanka are alive in the series with his calm knock of 54* off 50. This is also Sri Lanka's first win of the tour.

Angelo Mathews: "Looks like I'll be out for a couple of weeks. Looks really bad at the moment (on the ankle injury picked up during the match). We were pretty out and done until this game, but all the slow bowlers bowled really well. The fast bowlers were brilliant too. Kind of sub continent wicket and our bowlers did a great job for us. I had to bat till the end and I had to stay till the end. Sandakan deserves this (MoM) award more than me. It was just run-a-ball when I was with Chandi, so we just talked about staying there and bat till the end. I had to hit the long ball as I couldn't run. Thankfully I could do it.

Farhaan Behardien: "The boys really fought well. The wicket was a bit slow, but we fought till the end. We never assessed the wicket upfront. We lost too many wickets early on and couldn't launch towards the end. Should have adapted a lot more quicker. I said in the last game a superstar is born. He is a great lad. Capetown is a final for us. We want to come prepared on Wednesday."
