That's that. The game has been called off. Both teams take one point each. Australia will be frustrated and disappointed with this result. They had cruised to 83 for 1 in chase of 182 and looked set to seal the chase. However, rain came down after 16 overs and didn't relent. They needed 20 overs to have a result but heavy rains meant resumption wasn't possible. Bangladesh, by this result, stay alive in the tournament but will need to win their last game against New Zealand to stand a chance to somehow make it to the semifinals. That's all from us folks! Hope you enjoyed the coverage of this clash. Goodnight!

With some time to go for toss, you can read Tristan Holme's preview. There's a special as well from him on the famous Bangladesh win over Australia in Cardiff in 2005. It's a must read.

BUILD UP: Hello and welcome to the live blog of the clash between Australia and Bangladesh at the Kennington Oval, London. Both teams face off in a must-win affair. While Australia escaped with a point against New Zealand, they'll need a win to stay in a better position to qualify for the semifinal.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, need a win to stay in the tournament. A loss here will leave them with no points and that will prove fatal after the loss against England.

the match will played on the same pitch that was used in South Africa's win over Sri Lanka on Saturday. It was not the sort of batting paradise on which Bangladesh's bowlers struggled against England, and after drying out further it should provide some assistance to the slower bowlers and the spinners. Australia are not known for their ability to temper their attacking instincts in such situations, and have been found out on more than one occasion.

Secondly, rain is expected to intervene in the evening, which could make the toss a key factor. If Bangladesh can take advantage of this as well as the preferable conditions, they could close the gap between the two teams and create the sort of memorable win that captain Mashrafe Mortaza was part of in Cardiff in 2005.

Before they can do so, they will need to find a better balance to their side - in the tournament opener on Thursday, their lack of a fifth bowler hurt them as England ran away with the game.
