Eoin Morgan: Certainly not our best day. All credit to India. Kuldeep had a field day. I think both the games there has been more turn than on the grounds that we have played on. I think Lords will be different. We need to improve as a side. The seamers on this wicket come on to the bat nicely. we need to expose our areas of weakness before the WC.
Virat Kohli: As clinical as it can be. We knew it was a good wicket to bat on. Those wrist spinners in the middle overs are going to be tricky. Kuldeep was outstanding. I don't think I have seen a better spell in ODIs of late. We made a tactical decision looking at the dimesions of the ground. These two wrist spinners have been making the difference since they have come in. They did it in South Africa. Anything is possible with the selections for Tests. The focus now is winning on the next two games. Especially the next game as the series is on the line. The weather has been lovely. The crowd support has been excellent. The tour is really long and we need to keep doing well.
Kuldeep Yadav - Man of the Match: For me it is a big day. I started off well in the first few overs. Luckily I got a couple of wickets in the first two overs. For me it does not matter if the ground is small. Initially, I thought there was a lot of turn and after the first over, I knew I was in the game. If you are bowling in the right areas and you are using the variations perfectly, then it is pretty hard for the batsmen. I hope they will come back hard at us in the next game. I am hoping for a Test call.
ICYMI - Joe Root acknowledged getting dropped from the T20I side was a shocker for him. He's now keen to do well in the ODI series and prove a point.
SQUAD UPDATES - Bhuvneshwar Kumar is not a certain starter for the contest and will undergo a fitness test ahead of the clash. England have been jolted as they've lost Alex Hales to a side injury. Dawid Malan called in as cover.
Hello and welcome to the live blog of the first ODI between England and India at Trent Bridge. The Three Lions have been knocked out of the FIFA World Cup and the mood is expected to be sombre. The cricket players, though, have a job to do ahead of their especially after the 1-2 series loss in the preceding T20I series.
The upcoming series is a vital tuning-up exercise for both India and England ahead of next summer's cricket World Cup in this country. There is little to choose between the two teams right now. England, ranked top of the ODI rankings, have won ten of their last 12 bilateral series while India have won their last nine. Eight of the top 20 batsmen in the ICC's rankings will be on show and despite India and England being without their best one-day seamers in Jasprit Bumrah and Chris Woakes, there is enough quality on show with the ball too.
