That's a wrap:Hope you enjoyed our coverage of what turned turned out to be a one-sided encounter. Nonetheless, West Indies using the short ball to good effect would bring back some memories of the old. It's a double-header Saturday tomorrow, with New Zealand taking on Sri Lanka and Australia facing off against Afghanistan. Join us tomorrow.

Pooran completes the formalities:With two fours and two sixs across two Wahab overs, Pooran finishes with an unbeaten 34 off 19 as he powers West Indies to a seven-wicket victory with 36.2 overs to spare. A win set up by the West Indies pacers. An unimpressive performance from Pakistan would be an understatement, although Amir getting amongst the wickets would be a positive for them going forward.

Gayle falls after fifty:It appeared like a tired shot, one that was forced by his back issue, as he tried to hit Amir over the top but ended up miscuing it to Shadab at backward point to depart for 50 off 34. West Indies are 77 for 3 after 10 overs. Meanwhile, a lucky break for Hetmyer as Riaz outsmarts the batsman with a short delivery but Imam, running in from the deep, isn't able to complete what would have been a splendid catch.

Business as usual:After one quiet over, Gayle gives Wahab quite a pounding, scoring a six and two fours off successive deliveries. However, Gayle is struggling with his back, after playing a shot over point, and limps across to the non-striker's end for a 33-ball fifty.

Another for Amir:Bravo departs without scoring, giving Amir his second wicket. It was a back of a length delivery and the batsman poked at it to edge it to Babar at second slip. At the other end, Wahab starts with a maiden to Gayle. West Indies are 48 for 2 after 8.

Amir strikes:Hope departs in his attempt to go after Amir, handing a catch to Hafeez. It was a shortish delivery and Hope fails to clear the in-field as he tries to go over the top. He goes for 11 off 17, leaving West Indies at 36 for 1 in the fifth over.

The Gayle force:The devastating effects of Gayle's bat is felt in the fourth over, with Hassan Ali at the receiving end. Two shots were mis-timed but yielded two apiece while the left-hander also struck two back-to-back sixes to power West Indies in the small chase.

Flier from Gayle: Two top edges, flying over the 'keeper's head and over third man, gives Gayle two fours off Hassan Ali in the second over of the chase. Meanwhile, Hope has miscued a couple off Amir but the ball lands in no-man's land.

Pakistan bounced out for 105:The final wicket, which was picked up by Thomas, was a full one as he bowled Riaz to bag his fourth. The only other dismissal which wasn't to a short delivery was Shadab's leg-before. The rest have all been to short deliveries as Thomas (4-27), Holder (3-42) and Russell (2-4) do the bulk of the damage to bowl Pakistan out for a paltry total. Not the kind of start Pakistan would have . They'll now be hoping to salvage some pride with the ball and try to make a game of it.

Believe it or not,Pakistan have managed to cross the 100-run mark. All thanks to Wahab Riaz, who has belted two sixes and a four off Holder in the 21st over to help his team to 103 for 9. Meanwhile, Russell's ankle is giving him some problems.

And three for Oshane: It's now eight out of nine Pakistan wickets to short deliveries. Hafeez was in an awkward position while going for a pull and ended up getting a top edge to Cottrell behind square.

It's three for Holder now:Hasan Ali is the next to depart, another short of a length delivery proving to be the downfall of a Pakistan batsman. The batsman was in no position to pull it but went ahead with the shot anyway and ended up handing a simple catch to Cottrell at mid off. Pakistan are 81 for 8. Will they reach 100?

Build-up:

Blanked 5-0 by Australia in their home series at the UAE and only managing to avoid another whitewash at the hands of England due to a an abandoned game because of rain, Pakistan are entering the World Cup with a 10-match losing streak in ODIs. Their opponents, West Indies, are carrying with them the confidence of having secured a series win against the No. 1 team in the world, and although they went down to Bangladesh in a tri-series final, the Caribbean team are in a much better frame of mind when compared to Pakistan.

Losing to Afghanistan and a washed out game against Bangladesh during the warm-ups haven't served Pakistan in their preparations for the mega event. West Indies too were involved in a warm-up game that was affected by rain but the fact that they posted a 400-plus total against New Zealand in their next game and registered a comfortable victory, would hold them in good stead going into the World Cup.

Will West Indies become the first team to post a 500-plus total? Will Pakistan be able to snap their losing streak? Rob Johnston has more on the 'Clash of contrasting approaches'. He also writes about 'The return of the West Indies fear factor'

Well, West Indies have a clear lead there although Pakistan have done well to reduce the gap since their repeated losses to West Indies in the initial editions of the World Cup. Rishi Roy looks back at the West Indies-Pakistan clashes in the World Cup.
