WOW - New Zealand win by 5 wickets. What a win for New Zealand, this! It seemed like they would struggle after those two early wickets. But it's been a game of stunning comebacks for both West Indies and New Zealand. If West Indies made a stellar comeback to reach 180 after being 59/5, New Zealand came back strongly after that start to scale the revised target of 176 with four balls to spare.
Debutant Devon Conway was impressive in his 29-ball stay for 41 runs. Glenn Phillips turned the game around with his 7-ball 22, but it was Jimmy Neesham and Mitchell Santner that really gave New Zealand the momentum towards the end in an unbeaten 39-run stand. Neesham remained unbeaten on 48 off 24, while Santner wrapped up proceedings with a six - not out on 31 off just 18.
A great day's worth of cricket, with both sides having their chances. New Zealand 1, West Indies 0. Thank you for joining us today. Do return for the second game of the three-match series.
150 up for New Zealand. They're getting closer to the target. As long as Neesham is there you'd think they have a chance...
New Zealand need 51 off 30 balls. Can they chase it?
WOW - brilliant from debutant Conway. He's kept New Zealand in the hunt with some great strokeplay. His handy knock of 41 off 29 is what helped Neesham tee off.
WICKETSWest Indies have struck back with two quick wickets. Glenn Phillips falls after a 22-run blitz while Ross Taylor is run out for a duck. The visitors have seized the initiative with quick wickets.
He's, however, going after Fabian Allen... 22 runs off that over!
The physio is in the middle attending to Glenn Phillips who seems to be in quite a bit of pain.
Oshane Thomas has his man as Tim Siefert hit one straight to mid on.Powell there takes the catch on second attempt as New Zealand lose their second wicket.
COTTRELL STRIKES in the opening over!Guptill departs early in a steep chase. Big blow for NZ. Pooran makes no mistake.
West Indies were 59/5 at one stage. They've finished their 16 overs...with a total of 180. You read that right! After having cruised to 55/0 in just 3 overs, Lockie Ferguson dealt them a double-wicket over. Tim Southee continued as WI stumbled. Rain breaks didn't do NZ either side any good.
In came skipper Kieron Pollard and continued the spectacular year he's having with another brilliant knock that took West Indies to an imposing total. He remained unbeaten on 75 off just 37, cool and calm as ever, despite wickets falling at the other end with Lockie finishing with a career-best 5-21. The game has been reduced to a 16-over affair because of the stoppage time.
Can New Zealand chase this down? Join us for the chase.
