3 wins in a row!
Three wins in a row. RCB look like a slick unit this time around, especially in the backdrop of Maxwell's sparkling form. AB once again showed his class and quality while the bowlers gave a good account of themselves.
Russ gave KKR a glimmer but it wasn't to be in the end.
Toss and teams
RCB have won the vital toss and opted to bat, especially considering that it could be tougher to chase.
Kolkata Knight Riders (Playing XI): Nitish Rana, Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Eoin Morgan(c), Shakib Al Hasan, Dinesh Karthik(w), Andre Russell, Pat Cummins, Harbhajan Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Varun Chakravarthy
Royal Challengers Bangalore (Playing XI): Virat Kohli(c), Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar, Glenn Maxwell(w), AB de Villiers, Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Kyle Jamieson, Harshal Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal
Virat Kohli - We will bat first, the pitch will become slower and slower as the game goes on, but this surface looks better, want to put up a decent total player. WE're playing three overseas players - Dan Christian misses out, Rajat Patidar is in. We just want to do a professional job, do the process right, take one game at a time and enjoy -keep calm under pressure.
Eoin Morgan - We were looking to bat first as well, we've played good cricket despite the last game. No changes for us, same team. We have done pretty well in the first two games, and want to finish things in Chennai on a high. When I was the vice-captain, my role was to support DK, now as a captain, it's just about letting the team flow and make the correct decisions on the field. Obviously, have a lot of support from the backroom staff.
One side of the square boundary is short at 60m, the other is fairly long at 71m. The pitch looks a lot drier and darker as well, this is the same pitch on which the second game (which was a high-scoring one was played), but don't think this is as good as a batting surface as that was. There could be some spin available as well - it's a bat-first wicket, scoreboard pressure could be a telling factor on this pitch, opine Murali Kartik and Danny Morrison, in their pitch report.
Prelude:
Two played. Two won. RCB's impressive record to start the IPL 2021 season. More importantly, the Bangalore franchise has come on top in a couple of tense finishes. And that should give them the required momentum.
AB de Villiers and Maxwell have been in fine form while Harshal Patel has turned out to be the go-to man in the slog overs. Even Shahbaz Ahmed made an impression with a crucial spell in their previous game against SRH.
Meanwhile, their opponent, KKR, would hope to put the gut-wrenching defeat versus MI behind them. At 122 for 3, KKR seemed to be on course. However, on a slow Chennai pitch, they lost wickets in a cluster and slipped to a loss.
Incidentally, 13 years ago, we witnessed the inaugural game in the history of IPL. Yes, KKR took on RCB, with McCullum cracking a blazing hundred. What is in store for today's encounter between these two sides?
