if India wins the toss and bat first, 400 is not out of sight. Both Shaw and Ishan can hit quick tons.

Build up

You sure this is a second string Indian side? Not many 'B' teams go on to thrash their opposition with 80 balls to spare in an ODI. India gave Sri Lanka an absolute mauling in the tour opener that showcased the gulf in class between the two teams. That gulf is all set to widen further if Sri Lanka do not come up with something special tonight. Containing this fearless young brigade is not going to be an easy task and apart from the personnel they used on Sunday, India have a few more exciting talented players waiting in the wings.

Ishan Kishan smashed his first ball in the format for a six and followed it up with a four to eventually hit a fifty on debut. Prithvi Shaw went on a rampage in the opening five overs and set up the chase for India and was in fact named player of the match for that impact he created despite scoring only half the amount of runs his opening partner made. Compare that to the sedate approach of Sri Lanka who had to rely on a few lusty blows for their tail to get past 250. Their coach will still be pleased with the batting efforts though considering the outings in England recently. But clearly, it isn't enough.

Mickey Arthur would ideally want his batsmen to spend more time in the crease and make the starts count but it will be interesting to see if they show more intent. And in case India go on to bat first, there is no limit to the carnage we might have in store. Will Sanju Samson get a game to pile on the misery or will India stick with the same XI? We will find out shortly. Welcome to the live blog of the second ODI.
