India will have their task cut out against Australia in Sydney. The tourists have not won a match on the tour so far and find themselves in a must-win situation. Having lost both their games in the series so far, India have to win against Australia to keep their hopes alive. They can still qualify for the final if they win against England with a bonus point and also manage to pip England's net run rate. A huge task indeed.

However, Australia have already qualified for the final. They could now afford to rest some of their key players and give a chance to others. India have won only one ODI against Australia at SCG. So the history too is against the visitors. Rohit Sharma is still out injured and Dhawan will get another chance to prove himself. Toss and team updates coming up soon.

There was a slight drizzle at the SCG which delayed the toss for a while. There is rain predicted throughout the day as well. In case of a washout or points being shared today, then the India-England encounter will be a straightforward knockout game.

No overs were lost despite the toss taking place an hour after the scheduled start time. George Bailey returned for Australia after serving a one-match ban. He got it right at the toss and Australia chose to bowl first. They made 5 changes with Josh Hazlewood, Bailey, Xavier Doherty, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh coming in. India brought in Ishant Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja to replace Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Teams:

India (Playing XI): Ajinkya Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan, Ambati Rayudu, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni(w/c), Stuart Binny, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma

being played?

It was always on the cards. Rain had the final say at SCG. The match was officially called off. Both teams got two points each. This means that the India-England game on 30th January will be a knockout game. A simple one really. England have 5 points currently while India have two points. Whoever wins at Perth will go through to the final to meet Australia.

India will probably breathe a little easy after the washout. It makes their task straightforward. A loss against Australia today would have put their chances of qualifying in serious jeopardy.
