It is an important game for Sunrisers Hyderabad. They have won only one out of their first four games. KKR, on the other hand, have won three out of their four games and will be keen to carry on with the momentum. SRH will want to make good use of home conditions and get their campaign back on track. A loss once again will put their position in jeopardy.
KKR have a more settled combination of the two. Gambhir will not be interested in making too many changes. David Warner's SRH is still struggling to get the perfect mix. It should be interesting to see what they come up with. Stay tuned for the toss and team updates.
Gautam Gambhir was happier to chase after winning the toss. David Warner was not perturbed about batting first in the important game. Johan Botha came in for Ryan ten Doeschate for KKR. Moises Henriques replaced Eoin Morgan for SRH.
Gautam Gambhir opted to bowl the off-spinner Botha against Sunrisers' left-handed duo of Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner. a ploy that despite not yielding any wickets succeeded in keeping the usually aggressive batsmen quiet. Botha conceded 12 off his first two overs before the SRH openers used Morne Morkel's pace to add quick runs. The flowing start forced Gambhir to bring on Sunil Narine from the other end as the hosts moved along nicely to 43 for no loss after the batting power-play.
Despite not being a breakaway start, SRH have importantly not lost early wickets. They'll want one of these two to bat deep into the innings.
Robin Uthappa got a life very early in the innings when Robin Uthappa was dropped at slip. KL Rahul reached out from second slip to a ball that was traveling towards first and dropped it. Dhawan could not get to it even on the rebound. Could prove quite costly that.
Steyn's frustration was only compounded when Praveen Kumar, at third man, dropped Gambhir in the 3rd over. Another simple chance spilled as Gambhir went for an upper cut. Uthappa then flicked a nonchalant six to add salt to the wound. Confident start from KKR
While Uthappa was timing the ball superbly, Gambhir was struggling to find the boundaries. He went on a wild slog against Praveen Kumar and missed a low full toss. SRH had a breakthrough in the 4th over but KKR were going at a good rate already.
He was looking extremely good but Robin Uthappa, on 34, flicked a delivery straight to short fine leg. Henriques got a lucky break and so did KKR. The shot was definitely on, Uthappa simply failed to hit it wide of the fielder. KKR still on track though.
Andre Russell was given a promotion. Right move by KKR. Both Manish Pandey and Russell have cleared the fence already. It's set for a thrilling finish now. 44 needed off the last 4 overs for KKR. SRH need to get the big-hitters out and quickly as well.
Praveen Kumar bowled a very good 11th over. Just 7 runs off it and no boundary. Manish Pandey was even fooled by a yorker that went between his legs as Praveen followed him. Excellent set-up. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was entrusted to bowl the final over with 25 needed. Yusuf Pathan hit it straight to cover. That was the end of the ever-so-slim chance of KKR pulling off a heist. They eventually fell 16 runs short.
It was a much needed win for SRH. This is only their second win of this edition while KKR lost their second game of the tournament. They have slipped a bit but will be looking to bounce back strongly.
