After a frenetic second day, the third day meandered along almost as if it was a rest day. That is merely in terms of the run-rate though. The bigger picture was of course of South Africa trying to resurrect their flailing batting department. Amla led the vigil with a marathon knock and remained unbeaten throughout the day. de Villiers and du Plessis contributed with useful half-centuries and remained patient enough to ensure that South Africa inched closer towards safety.

The duo have continued to remain firm on the fourth morning as well. South Africa seem in no hurry to get this game going forward. With the intent understood, this is a pretty solid effort in pursuing a set goal. Admirable.

Maiden hundred for Temba Bavuma and he's totally chuffed. Fantastic effort and his father in the crowd seems a very pleased man as well. South Africa's batting unit has well and truly come alive once again.

Amla calls in his batsmen with South Africa still trailing by two runs. He wants his bowlers to have a shot at the tired England batsmen. They sense something here. If a few wickets fall at this juncture, this Test could come alive just like that.

It has been another long day on the field for bowlers. After four full days of cricket, we have seen just two innings finish and 17 wickets falling. It's sfe to say that any chance of a result tomorrow will depend on outlandish performances from some of the players. But that apart, the major takeaway would be the return to form of South Africa's batsmen. This will help their confidence no end going into the rest of the series.
