Jason Roy must be kicking himself after throwing his wicket away considering the kind of start he made. He probably played one shot too many as he hits one straight to cover. He has provided the impetus though with a 30-ball 48. Joe Root is in at number 3.

Hosts South Africa will be looking to bounce back from the Test series loss. That was their second successive series loss in the longest format and they went on to lose their top spot in the ICC rankings. They would want to put that behind them and make amends in the shorter formats with the Twenty20 (T20) World Cup coming up.

Eoin Morgan has won the toss and England will be batting first on what looks like a good wicket. James Taylor might have scored a century in the warm-up match but he doesn't find a spot in the playing XI. Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid are the two spinners in the side. For South Africa, Marchant de Lange comes in for the rested Kagiso Rabada.

Jason Roy and Alex Hales go bang bang right from the word go. Somebody remind them that this is a 50 overs match. Roy especially has been spot on with his timing and is making use of the short boundaries. South Africa are already on the defensive and need a wicket soon.
