The focus surrounding the build up for this crucial encounter has been around Australia's regular skipper Steven Smith, who left the squad midway through the series to get adequate rest ahead of the busy home summer. In all honesty, it should have revolved around the Sri Lankan legend Tillakaratne Dilshan, who is all set to make his final ODI appearance today.

The 39-year-old surprised everyone by announcing his retirement plans after the second ODI, which his side won and now he will be looking to bow out with another victory to give his side the upper hand in the five-match series. The spinners once again strangled Australia in the last game and will look to carry on the good work in order to put the visitors under more pressure.

How will the Aussies cope up though? Will Warner bat with more responsibility now after looking to go after the bowlers right from the start so far in the series? Who will replace Smith in the playing XI? Shaun Marsh and Usman Khawaja are in contention. This contest promises to offer so much action!

Dinesh Chanidmal is unfazed by situations. Every innings is an opportunity for him to stamp his authority on a game. 11 for 2 last game, 23 for 2 here but his approach has been just the same. He's walked out and played his shots. Starc and Hazlewood, despite their early strikes, have been on the expensive side. The back-up-bowlers, Hastings and Faulkner, have done a nice holding role but Sri Lanka are motoring along at a rate well above 5. The platform is being laid so to say.

This has been a fascinating innings from Dinesh Chandimal even as his teammates folded at the first sight of adversity. Usually exuberant, Chandimal reigned in his natural instincts for the bigger cause. At a point when Sri Lanka looked increasingly likely to fold well-under 200, his fourth ODI ton has taken them to 226. Can the spinners save the blushes? Will Sri Lanka give Dilshan a winning farewell from the 50-over format? Tune in a bit.

Sri Lanka were searching for a wicket and Mathews has nipped out Warner. Australia have made a decent start but needed the duo to carry on in this tricky chase. Try keeping Dilshan out today. Celebrates his last ODI hurrah with a vintage catch at point. Warner was completely foxed here. Slower delivery this, Warner is early into this squarish punch and chips it in Dilshan's radar of awesomeness. A mini dive to his left, and boom, the catch's taken and celebrated with a tumble.

Shaun Marsh walks out to bat and Australia are 31 for 1 in five overs.

Alright then, Aaron Finch and David Warner are out there. Angelo Mathews to start with the ball and we are all set for this chase to begin ...

Same old, same old? Will Australia crumble against spin again? Finch is not pleased, he ponders over a review and then he surrenders. If this world wasn't adulterated by umpire calls, a referral was not. But not in this world, where the ball being a hair breadth outside the stump could mug you off the only review you've got. Drifts in, this delivery, and slides on straight from leg-stump. Not plumb but definitely clipping that. Oh, no. Scratch that. It's missing. Finch will rue this decision.

Australia 42 for 2.

Slower delivery, Marsh is early into a punch and chips it mid-off who dives in front to take the catch. Onfield decision is out. Looks like Chandimal had his fingers under it, replays show he has caught it. Australia are wobbling after a brisk start. They are now three down with just 44 runs on the board. Sri Lanka are on top and right back in the game.

George Bailey and Travis Head have steadied the Australian ship and now have added more than 50 runs for the fourth wicket. Not a lot of boundaries coming in but these two have done well to rotate the strike. Australia still 125 away and plenty of work needs to be done.

Uh, oh! Just when it looked like Australia were getting on top after a brief recovery period, they've lost Travis Head. Darted in, Head preempts turn which isn't there and backs away to make more of room, and embarrasses himself. The ball barrels in with the arm, skidding on with enough pace to defy that brave cut shot.

Australia 108 for 4 after 23 overs. Matthew Wade is the new man in.

Australia are doing really well here to stay in the hunt. After the Head-Bailey stand, the latter has now added another 50 with Wade. He's also reached his fifty and the onus is now on him to drive the team home. Australia need 61 more.

Can Sri Lanka fight back? Ironically he fell to a stroke which has served him so well. But credit to Dilruwan for bowling it well wide of off. The regularity with which Wade has swept him is a clear give-away as to what's coming so it's been fired slightly short and plenty wide. Wade still tries to reach out with a paddle sweep, loses his balance in the process and his back foot is dragged well outside for an easy stumping.

Faulkner joins Bailey. Australia need 36 more.

This just can't be explained. Okay, Bailey was undone by a good delivery but what wa Faulkner thinking? The match is in the bag but the allrounder goes for a slog sweep and throws away his wicket. Australia have slipped from a comfortable position and the match now hangs in balance with Sri Lanka just about nosing ahead.

Australia 206 for 7 and need 21 more. Mitchell Starc is the new man in. Spinners stealing the game here.

Phew! Some late drama but Australia clinch a two-wicket win and take series lead. Bailey led the way, Wade and Head played their role to perfection, Starc hammered his way and helped his team inch closer before they finally polished off the chase. A fairytale farewell was not to be for Dilshan. But what a cracker! Australia just about doing enough in the run-chase. They stuttered early, threatened to fall apart, but some superb manouevering of spin by Bailey in crucial partnerships with Head and Wade led the recovery. It nearly dropped Australia to the doorstep of victory, but they threatened to blow it up once again towards the end when a lower-order collapse seemed on the cards. Did enough though. Starc's blows helped. And here they are, leading 2-1 in the series.

That's still not it from us folks! Stay tuned for updates from the post match presentation.

"We lost a couple of early wickets. Our bowlers did a fantastic job to restrict SL to 226. Would have been nice to finish the game not out, and to finish 5 or 6 down. I'm not stepping into Smith's role. We're just trying to pull our weights more in his absence." - Bailey (Man of the Match).

"I thought we were 20-30 runs short. Disappointing that we didn't have enough partners for Chandimal. We lost wickets in the middle and that's why I'm disappointed. We could have dragged on till the 40th-45th over. Bowlers bowled their hearts out. Wicket was pretty good. Unfortunately we couldn't give a winning farewell to Dilshan for the service he provided." - Angelo Mathews.

"We need to address some situations later in the change room. The bowlers bowled well, Zampa used the breeze well, but to be brutally honest we should have won it 5 wickets left. Our top order hasn't been firing, I put my hand up as well, but yeah happy to take a 2-1 lead." - David Warner.

That's that then people! You can head over to catch all the action between India and West Indies here. Until next time then ...
