Toss - India opt to bowl
No surprises there as Virat Kohli opts to bowl first. The big news is that both Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan are making their debut tonight. Shikhar Dhawan and Axar Patel make way for the duo and that also means Hardik Pandya will be tested. He is India's 5th bowler and one can expect him to bowl all four overs. That will be interesting. England on the other hand have made one change. Mark Wood isn't 100 percent fit and Tom Curran has replaced him.
Teams:
England (Playing XI): Jason Roy, Jos Buttler(w), Dawid Malan, Jonny Bairstow, Eoin Morgan(c), Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, Jofra Archer, Tom Curran, Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid
India (Playing XI): KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli(c), Rishabh Pant(w), Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal
Build up
India have made it a habit in recent times to bounce back in a series after losing the opening game. While fans would expect the team to put up a fight now after the hammering in the opening T20I, the upcoming four games has a lot more significance for the home side than just winning it. They saw Shreyas Iyer step up and justify his place in the squad with a noteworthy performance in the first game and they have a few exciting players who can come in and make an impact. Whether Suryakumar Yadav or Ishan Kishan get an opportunity tonight remains to be seen but skipper Virat Kohli will be keen on getting some runs under his belt in the first place after going through a lean recently.
Shikhar Dhawan, who is getting an opportunity in place of the rested Rohit Sharma, will be looking to get a big score as well in order to retain his place in the T20I set up. Overall, a good batting performance will be on top of India's agenda after a poor show on Friday. It will be interesting to see how the wicket behaves tonight and both the captains will be looking to bowl first anyway. England have given themselves a new dimension with Adil Rashid bowling in the powerplay but it was the pacers - Mark Wood and Jofra Archer - who impressed the most.
In the batting department, Jason Roy was scintillating but England barely were challenged considering the total they were chasing. If India does put up a substantial total or get to bowl first, the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar - who is on a comeback trail - will certainly have a chance to try and make an impact. This is indeed a very important series for Bhuvneshwar who has missed the majority of India's matches over the last 2-3 years. Welcome to the live blog for tonight's contest. Hopefully, we don't get another one-sided game.
